It has been another busy fun filled week at Jubilee!
On Monday we had 12 helpers from the History Club at Holy Cross Primary School, teacher Mr Jones and Headteacher Mr Wardle on the site. The group did a fantastic job of clearing further coke ovens and even found the bowl of a clay pipe!
On Tuesday we had an archaeology taster day and some new recruits helped us to uncover some of the Upcast Engine house.
On Wednesday we found more bricks with company names – two from Newhey and one Accrington NORI – all adding to the story of the site.
Massive thanks must go to Phil Cooke ‘Cookie’ of Oxford Archaeology North for patiently explaining every ‘find’ (or rusty lump of metal) and of course to all our brilliant volunteers who come to help out every day. We can’t wait to get back on Monday and uncover more of Jubilee!
