Ever wondered what heritage preservation is all about?

We’ve put together a little video about the art and science of heritage preservation and how the site at Jubilee Colliery has been enhanced as a result of heritage preservation work.

The Preserving the Past volunteers carried out much of the preservation work, helped along by Alan Gardner Associates, Paul McGiffen of McGiffen Masonry and Rupert Hilton of R.Hilton & Co.

Alan, Paul and Rupert helped our volunteers understand what makes Jubilee special, how to display some of the recent findings of the archaeological digs and how to tell the story of Jubilee Colliery through preservation work.

As well as teaching the volunteers about lime pointing and other preservation techniques, he facilitated appropriate repairs and interventions to the remains of Jubilee to ensure future generations can enjoy the historical legacy of the site.
